Omaha Moms Blog :: Introducing Janna

Hello, Omaha moms! My name is Janna. I’m looking forward to sharing my heart with you and hearing from you too!

Omaha

Born and raised across the river in Council Bluffs, I have a great love for Omaha and all of the surrounding communities. The entire Metro area is like a big family. From the zoo, to Junkstock, to the College World Series, to the Wabash Trace, and Thursday night’s “Taco Ride”. Just typing that made me feel like I got a giant hug. 🙂 Oh, and the saying about Omaha is true. You really CAN get to most places in town in 20 minutes

Omaha is a community that still cares about the people and I can’t imagine raising my children anywhere else!

Moms

There is about an eight year stretch of my life that is somewhat of a blur. I remember *some* things, but details are a little fuzzy. Our oldest son (14) was born in 2002, then a daughter (13) in 2004, another daughter (11) in 2005, and our youngest son (10) in 2007. Just to save you from doing math, we had four kids that were ages 4 and under. Yeah, we didn’t really think the spacing issue thing through… Although it was challenging when they were younger, it has been a blessing! Since they are so close in age, they really DO play together now. Calling them “best friends” may be pushing it, but, hey! A mom can dream.

Not only am I “Mom” to my kids, but I am also their teacher! In 2010, we started our homeschool journey. Homeschooling is not for the faint at heart, but it is extremely rewarding.  I look forward to telling you about some of our adventures, struggles, and successes.

Blog

I’ve wanted to publish a book since I was in the 3rd grade. My teacher read my poem aloud to the class (it involved frogs, logs, and clogs) and it motivated me. I went on to write stories about playgrounds made entirely of food (I may have just been hungry a lot) to making as-funny-as-I-could-make-them greeting cards for my teachers and classmates. Serving as the editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper was one of my highlights in my writing career and drove me to want to write more. Then life happened. None of which I would want to change.

Writing, for me, involves a distraction free setting and clear mind. Being that I still have kids living in my home, that isn’t 100% possible. But they are getting more and more independent, so I felt it was time to get back into what I love to do.

Blogging for Omaha Mom’s Blog is going to be an exciting addition to my life. My goal is to bring unique perspectives about topics that are near and dear to mommas’ hearts.

Janna
Janna juggles life as a mother and homeschool teacher to four beautiful children (born in '02, '04, '05, and '07) while running a thriving photography business and being an independent ambassador for Plexus. She was born and raised in the city of Council Bluffs and can often be found training for her next Half marathon on the trails near her home. Among her many blessings is the love-of-her-life, Chad. They married in August of 1999 and enjoy working together at j. selander photography, worshipping side by side at church, working out at their favorite gym, and taking romantic date nights to Target.
