October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and is something we take very seriously at Omaha Mom. We’ve compiled a list of local resources to help anyone needing assistance. Love shouldn’t hurt.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
- 1 in 3 women nationally experience some form of physical violence by a partner
- 1 in 7 women has been stalked by a partner.
- 1 in 15 children are exposed to domestic violence, and 90% are eyewitness to the abuse
- 20,000 calls are made to domestic violence hotlines nationwide on a typical day
- 38.5% of Nebraska women experience physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
With the current COVID-19 restrictions, many victims are no longer able to escape the abuse. We encourage everyone to be aware, donate to these local organizations, and support those who have struggled with this form of abuse.

When you are unsure where to turn, Domestic Violence Services (DVS) at Catholic Charities offers shelter and safety. They provide life-saving help for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking by an intimate partner, and human trafficking.

Siena Francis House is Nebraska’s largest provider of services to individuals experiencing homelessness. They provide emergency shelter, food, and clothing to individuals experiencing homelessness; the ultimate goal is to end homelessness by helping every guest achieve housing out in the community.
